4. St. Anne Marquis de
Becancour Bloodline
This line is also often referred
to as the "Becancour" line.
Ste-Anne Marquis de Becancour (#3544),
a black stallion which was also a product of the Government breeding
programs, was born June 1, 1952 at St-Anne de la Pocatiere. He was owned
successively by the Director of the St-Anne Experimental Farm, Etienne
Gagnon of Viger QC, Arsene Bérubé of Cacouna QC, and in 1958, the La
Gorgendiere Provincial Farm School.
His sire was the black stallion Bazola de Becancour
(#2485) and his dam the chestnut mare Ste-Anne Hisola (#3272).

He produced four stallion offspring: LG Minon
(#3746), LG Jovial (#3757), LG Primo (#3794), and
Nelson de L'Isle Verte (#3663). Of these, only LG Minon and LG
Primo have surviving male offspring.
This line also used to be more common and is becoming
much less so now. Some Becancour stallions still remain (see below), however they are
getting to be few and far between. This line is definitely in need of
preservation now.
They seem to be less consistent with respect to
type than some of the other lines. They range from big to small, large boned
to fine boned etc. Generally they seem to be good looking and have nice
temperaments. In our experience, most Canadians
with gaited tendencies, seem to come from this line.
Here are some of the remaining Becancour stallions standing at stud:
